LEADERSHIP TEAM

We are a church which believes that every member has gifts and a unique contribution to make to the life and growth of our life together.

The ministry of every member is encouraged and supported by our Leadership Team :

RECTOR: Stephen Thorp

Stephen grew up in a Surrey village and worked in a bank for several years prior to ordination.  He studied theology at London Bible College and Trinity College, Bristol before serving a curacy in Knutsford, Cheshire. Then he was a Team Vicar in rural Devon, with responsibility for 4 out of 11 parishes for 10 years, before moving here to Necton with his wife Ruth, and their three children, Samuel, Jonathan and Naomi at the end of August 2006. He was instituted and inducted as Rector of the Benefice on September 26th by the Bishop of Norwich.

CHURCHWARDENS: Hilary Bewes & Di Daniels

Hilary graduated as a Doctor of Medicine, and together with her husband Peter, spent 15 years as a missionary in East Africa. They returned to England to practice for a while in Birmingham, before returning to East Africa again. After retiring they moved to Necton, where they have lived for the last 8 years. She is a Governor at the local school, and an active member of the local U3A group. Birdwatching and rambling are amongst the many hobbies she enjoys.

Di trained as a dental hygienist in the RAF in 1965 where she met her husband Danny.  She moved to Necton in 1973 and has two children and five grandchildren, all living in Dereham.  Her hobbies include golf and caravanning.  She has been involved with Girl Guides for over 30 years and currently helps with a Guide Unit in Watton.

DIOCESAN READER: Gordon Copsey

Born in Necton, into a local farming family, Gordon attended the village Primary School, before going to Swaffham Secondary Modern. As a teenager, he was a member of our church choir, and, as a Reader, now leads worship and preaches. He is a member of our Church Council and represents us on our local Deanery Synod.

DIOCESAN READER: Carole Hicks

Carole trained as a nurse in Nottingham where she met and married Michael, a doctor. After they settled in Norfolk, Carole worked as a practice nurse for 16 years. She began her Reader training in 2003 and was licensed on May 20th 2006. Her ministry includes preaching and pastoral work, with a particular heart for prayer ministry.

ORGANIST: Jill Dobbs

Jill came to live in Necton in 1968. She had not previously played the organ, being a 'jazz pianist'; but in 1971 was asked to 'stand-in' in the absence of a previous organist, and has been playing regularly ever since.

In addition we have a number of "Ministry Teams" which oversee areas of ministry : Worship, Fellowship Groups, Children's & Youth Groups, Pastoral Visitors, Mission

– and, of course, our Website Team!

Three retired clergy belong to our congregation and share in leading worship, preaching and other aspects of Christian ministry.
